Damian Montano enjoys an active career as both composer and bassoonist in Los Angeles. As a film and television composer, his credits include original music for the feature film Steam, starring Ruby Dee and Ally Sheedy, and the complete series of the NBC Emmy-winning reality drama Starting Over, produced by Bunim-Murray. Equally well-versed in writing concert music, he has been funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and has received numerous commissions from ensembles across the country, including the Houston Symphony and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. His works have been performed by ensembles such as the National Symphony (D.C), Long Beach Symphony, Santa Monica Symphony, Culver City Symphony, Northwestern University Chamber Orchestra, the International Double Reed Society Festival Orchestra, Chamber Music Palisades, the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, and the Albuquerque Youth Symphony.
As a performer, Damian is a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with many southern California orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera and the San Diego Symphony. He has been featured as soloist with the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra and the University of Southern California Wind Symphony, subsequent to winning each ensembleâs Concerto Competition with a work that he composed. Additionally, he has been featured twice as soloist in his double concerto for piccolo and contrabassoon. As a motion picture and television recording artist, he has performed on scores by composers such as Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Marco Beltrami, Christopher Young, Elliot Goldenthal, Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell, Christophe Beck, Heitor Pereira, Alexandre Desplat, and Bear McCreary.
Damian graduated cum laude from Rice University with a Bachelor degree in music performance, and received his Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California.
