Laura Brenes has been a member of the Redlands Symphony, which she considers to be her home orchestra, since 2001. A native Californian, Mrs. Brenes was born and raised in Yorba Linda, just 40 miles west of Redlands. She began her musical training on the piano and began studying the French horn at the age of nine. After receiving a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance from Brigham Young University, Mrs. Brenes attended the University of Southern California on scholarship, where she received her Masters Degree while studying with Vincent DeRosa.
Laura Brenes is an active freelance musician in the Los Angeles area. She is currently Principal Horn for the Redlands Symphony Orchestra and third horn for the Riverside Philharmonic. She was formerly Fourth Horn in the Las Vegas and Fresno Philharmonics and Assistant Principal Horn for the Oregon Coast Festival Orchestra. She is an active recording artist and can be heard on many motion picture, television, and video game soundtracks. Most recently, Mrs. Brenes just finished recording the score for Disneys Oz the Great and Powerful, which will be released later this year. She has toured all over the US as well as Eastern Europe and China with a number of different musical groups.
Mrs. Brenes currently performs with the Long Beach Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, New West Symphony, Santa Barbara Symphony, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale Orchestra. She also greatly enjoys teaching. She became the horn professor at the University of Redlands in 2007 and has loved helping the next generation of musicians. For years, she taught up to 30 students privately and at various schools throughout the southland. Her students now dot the country and have gone on to great success.
